What's included in your Wilderness warranty
Wilderness is the exclusive distributor in New Zealand of the Bürstner, Carado and HYMER brands. Each of these brands has a reputation for being a world leader in the recreational vehicle industry.
When you purchase your new or used motorhome from us, you get our Rest Easy warranty so that you can purchase with confidence and enjoy a worry-free ownership experience.
Our Rest Easy warranty applies to all our new or used motorhomes and campervans. It covers mechanical issues and issues with the fit-out of your motorhome or campervan except for where this has been excluded.
New Motorhomes and Campervans
Fiat Warranty
2 year warranty on engine and chassis
All motorhomes on a Fiat chassis are covered by the Fiat warranty for two years from the date of first registration.
The warranty is subject to servicing being carried out to the manufacturer's specifications and by an approved Fiat agent. Servicing must be done within two years of the start of the warranty period or every 48,000km.
Mercedes Warranty
2 year or 200,000kms warranty on engine and chassis
All motorhomes on a Mercedes chassis are covered by the Mercedes warranty for two years from the date of first registration or for the first 200,000kms, whichever comes first.
The warranty is subject to servicing to the manufacturer's specification and by an approved Mercedes agent being carried out at 12 months.
Bürstner Warranty
Motorhome fit-out: 2 years
Water tightness*: 10 years or 120,000km whichever comes first**
House batteries: 6 months
*water tightness warranty subject to annual water tightness test by an approved agent
**applies to Model Year 2019 or newer. For Model Year 2018 or earlier, warranty is 5 years or 120,000km whichever comes first.
Carado Warranty
Motorhome fit-out: 2 years
Water tightness*: 7 years or 100,000km whichever comes first**
House batteries: 6 months
*water tightness warranty subject to annual water tightness test by an approved agent
**applies to Model Year 2020 and newer. For Model Year 2019 and earlier, warranty is 5 years or 100,000km whichever comes first.
HYMER Warranty
Motorhome fit-out: 2 years
Water tightness*: 6 years or 100,000km whichever comes first
*water tightness warranty subject to annual water tightness test by an approved agent
Used Motorhomes and Campervans
Chassis and motorhome fit-out: 3 months
Water tightness*: The balance of the manufacturer's warranty.
*water tightness warranty subject to annual water tightness test by an approved agent
What's not included in your warranty (exclusions)
The warranty does not cover the following:
- Regular servicing and the cost of replacement parts and components including, but not limited to, friction items such as brake shoes, pads and clutch discs.
- Regular warranty checks including water tightness tests.
- Any vehicle failure whilst the vehicle is being used as a sublet or commercially (i.e. as a taxi, courier vehicle, shuttle, or any vehicle used for hire or reward.)
- Any aftermarket enhancements, electrical or mechanical parts installed after the date of purchase, unless those items were installed by us, and any failure arising from these items.
- Failure to adequately care for and maintain the Vehicle as described in the relevant manufacturer’s owner’s manual.
- Repairs to or replacement of components required as a result of the use of the Vehicle for anything other than recreational purposes.
- Repairs to or replacement of components required as a result of the use of incorrect fuel, fluids, or fuel or fluid into water systems.
- Repairs to or replacement of components required as a result of the vehicle being involved in an accident.
- Repairs to or replacement of components required as a result of wilful damage, neglect or abuse of the vehicle.
- Repairs to or replacement of components required as a result of failure to take reasonable care of the vehicle, including following a failure of the vehicle.
- Repairs to or replacement of components caused by faulty workmanship through insurance repair or repair completed by anyone other than us.
- Repairs to or replacement of components required as a result of external forces including, without limitation, contamination, water damage, fire, natural disaster, atmospheric conditions, rodent damage, stone chipping, corrosion, rust or the perishing of any part of the Vehicle.
- Normal wear and tear, including interior surfaces, upholstery or paint.
- Damage or failures resulting from theft or fire.
Parts and accessories refund policy
When products are faulty
If the part or accessory you have bought is faulty, we will provide a remedy as required by the Consumer Guarantees Act. We may repair or replace the item or offer you a refund.
Just changed your mind?
We do not have to give a refund if your circumstances have changed or you change your mind about a purchase - so please choose carefully.
Your legal protection
We are committed to upholding the highest business standards in order to ensure that you are totally satisfied with your purchase.
Registered Motor Vehicle Trader
Wilderness is a registered motor vehicle trader. Purchasing a motorhome from a registered motor vehicle trader offers you an increased level of protection.
Registered motor vehicle traders are covered by the Motor Vehicle Sales Act (MVSA). The MVSA requires registered motor vehicle traders to:
- provide buyers with detailed information about any used motor vehicles they're selling
- keep records of their sales contracts
disclose any security interest over (money owing on) a vehicle they're selling, and
- produce their Certificate of Registration if asked.
Consumer Guarantees Act
In the unlikely event that the motorhome you purchase from us experiences faults, we will meet our obligations under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993. The Act sets out quality guarantees any business must provide to their customers.
Your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act are in addition to our warranty and any warranty provided by the manufacturer.
The Consumer Guarantees Act does not apply where the product has been misused, broken or improperly operated.
If you are purchasing a motorhome for commercial or business purposes, then the provisions of the Consumer Guarantees Act do not apply. However, you are still covered by our warranty and the warranty given by the manufacturer.

Motorhome Safety Recalls

Recall 300274: Starter battery not charging
Urgency: Medium
Description:We have been notified by the motorhome manufacturer of a recent recall covering the starter battery in some motorhomes from these model years.
Due Date: 12 December 2021
If you have not been contacted by email yet, no action is required. If you have been notified, please see action required below. If in doubt, please contact our after sales team.
Action required
As a precaution, we need to inspect your motorhome to determine if the fault affects your vehicle. If we confirm the fault on inspection, we will install the replacement parts. The inspection must be completed prior to the due date above in order to meet the manufacturer's warranty requirements. Failure to complete the work prior to the due date will mean you will not be able to claim on the vehicle’s warranty should this issue arise in the future.
Making an appointment
Please contact our after sales team as soon as possible to make an appointment to inspect your motorhome and carry out any repairs if required.
We will require your vehicle for a full day. We may be able to supply a courtesy car for you if required. The recall will not cover any accommodation or travel costs.
